Privacy Policy
Effective Date: April 30, 2026
Last Updated: May 28, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how BurrLife LLC, an Ohio limited liability company ("we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use the Next Watch TV web application at app.nextwatchtv.com, the marketing site at www.nextwatchtv.com, the iOS application, and any related services (collectively, the "Service").
This Privacy Policy is incorporated into, and forms part of, our Terms and Conditions. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms.
1. Summary (At a Glance)
- We operate a paid, account-based TV show recommendation service. We do not sell your personal information.
- We collect only what we need to run the Service: your email address, your chosen username and password (hashed), your subscription or purchase status, your show ratings, watch status, and preferences, and basic usage and error logs.
- We use third parties only where necessary — currently Render (hosting), TVmaze and TMDB (show metadata and streaming availability, with JustWatch as TMDB's underlying streaming-availability source), Stripe (web payments), and Apple (iOS app distribution, in-app purchases, and crash reports if you opt in via iOS settings).
- We do not run third-party advertising networks, ad SDKs, or cross-site tracking.
- You can request access, correction, or deletion of your data at any time by emailing contact@nextwatchtv.com.
- The Service is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
| Category | Examples | Why we collect it |
|---|---|---|
| Account and billing profile info | Username, email, password (stored hashed), billing-related identifiers linked to your account (such as an internal customer ID, subscription or entitlement status) | To create and secure your account and associate paid access with your account |
| Purchase and subscription context | Plan selections (e.g., annual, lifetime), whether you started a trial, high-level status of your access (e.g., active trial, active subscription, active lifetime, expired) | To determine your entitlement to paid features, display accurate account status, and operate restore flows |
| Profile and preferences | Favorite genres, favorite actors/actresses, streaming services you subscribe to, taste profile signals | To generate personalized recommendations and match scores |
| Viewing activity | Show ratings, watch status (watching / watched / not interested), watchlist, notes, tags | To track your shows and tailor recommendations |
| Communications | Messages you send to contact@nextwatchtv.com, support tickets, bug reports | To respond to you and improve the Service |
We do not store full payment card numbers on our systems. Payment details you enter during checkout are handled by our payment providers (such as Stripe for web purchases and Apple for in-app purchases) under their own terms and privacy policies.
Household profiles. A single NextWatchTV account is designed to be shared by a household, and an account may contain multiple profiles (one per person in the household, each with its own preferences, ratings, watchlist, and recommendations). Profile data is scoped to the account it belongs to: the account owner, and anyone the account owner allows to sign in to the account, can view and manage every profile within that account. Profile data is not shared with other NextWatchTV accounts or shown publicly. If you do not want your activity visible to other people who use the same account, use a different account rather than sharing one. To remove a profile, an account owner can delete it from within the app; to remove the entire account and all profiles, see Section 7 of these terms.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
| Category | Examples | Why we collect it |
|---|---|---|
| Device and app info | Device type, operating system and version, app version, browser type, language, time zone | To deliver the app correctly across web and iOS, and to diagnose compatibility issues |
| Log data | IP address, request timestamps, endpoints accessed, HTTP status codes, referring URL | Security, abuse prevention, rate limiting, and debugging |
| Usage events | Feature interactions, screen views, in-app actions (e.g., rated a show, added to watchlist, started a trial, viewed the pricing page) | To understand what works, fix bugs, and prioritize features. Aggregated and not sold. |
| Error and crash data | Stack traces, error codes, contextual app state (non-sensitive) | To identify and fix bugs |
| Notification tokens | Web push subscription or iOS device token (only if you enable notifications) | To deliver notifications you opt into (e.g., newly completed shows, new-season alerts) |
| Cookies / local storage | Session cookie for login, preference storage, CSRF tokens | To keep you signed in and to remember your settings |
| Legal acknowledgment records | The document type and version you accepted (Terms, Privacy Policy, etc.), a cryptographic hash of the exact text, the timestamp, the client platform and app version, your locale, and a truncated IP address and user agent | To maintain durable proof of your agreement to our Terms and this Policy, to comply with our legal obligations, and to enforce our agreements |
We do not use third-party advertising cookies, ad identifiers, cross-site tracking pixels, or behavioral-advertising SDKs.
2.3 Information From Third Parties
- TVmaze. We retrieve show metadata (titles, cast, seasons, episode counts, status, images) from the TVmaze API under the CC BY-SA license. This is not personal information about you.
- TMDB (The Movie Database). We retrieve additional show metadata and streaming-availability data (the "Where to Watch" section and service badges) from the TMDB API. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Outbound requests to TMDB include show identifiers but not personal information about you. TMDB's underlying streaming-availability data is sourced from JustWatch.
- Stripe (web payments). When you start a trial or purchase through the web experience, Stripe processes your payment information (such as card details, billing address, and payment method) on our behalf. We do not store full payment card numbers on our systems. Stripe may share back certain non-card data with us, such as a Stripe customer ID, subscription or payment status, plan and product identifiers, and relevant timestamps, which we use to maintain your entitlement and display billing status in your account. Your use of Stripe is also subject to Stripe’s own Privacy Policy.
- Apple (iOS and in-app purchases). If you install the iOS app, Apple provides us aggregated and anonymized App Store analytics (downloads, retention, crash rates). If you have opted into sharing analytics with developers in iOS Settings, Apple may also share crash reports tied to the app. If you purchase through the App Store, Apple processes your payment and may share purchase and subscription-related information with us (such as product identifiers, transaction status, and subscription state) so we can recognize your entitlement and operate restore flows.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- Operate the Service — authenticate you, determine your entitlement to paid features (trial, subscription, or lifetime), deliver recommendations, track watch status, and send system emails.
- Personalize recommendations — compute match scores, completion-confidence badges, "newly completed" alerts, and other taste-based features.
- Operate billing and entitlements — coordinate with payment providers like Stripe and Apple to reflect your current plan, trial status, renewal dates, and restore results in your account, and to resolve billing-related support issues.
- Communicate with you — respond to support requests, send administrative messages (e.g., password resets, account notices, plan and billing updates, changes to the Terms or this Policy), and, if you opt in, deliver notifications.
- Keep the Service safe — prevent fraud, abuse, spam, bot registration, and security incidents, including misuse of trial and restore flows.
- Improve the Service — diagnose bugs, measure feature usage in aggregate (including paid-plan flows), and plan our roadmap.
- Comply with law — respond to lawful requests, enforce our Terms, and protect the rights of BurrLife LLC, our users, and the public.
We do not use your personal information to train third-party machine-learning models, and the Service itself does not use LLM-backed product features to generate recommendations.
4. Legal Bases (EEA/UK Users)
If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases under GDPR / UK GDPR:
- Contract — to create and operate your account, process trials and purchases, and deliver the Service and paid features you requested.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and fraud (including in connection with trials and billing), debug errors, and improve features. We balance these interests against your rights.
- Consent — for optional items such as push notifications or email marketing, where consent is required. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation — where required to comply with law.
5. How We Share Information
We share information only as described below.
5.1 Service Providers (Processors)
We use the following third parties to operate the Service. Each acts as our processor or otherwise handles data on our behalf and is subject to its own privacy terms.
| Provider | Purpose | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Render (privacy) | Web application and database hosting (SQLite with Litestream backup) | All data necessary to run the app, stored in the United States |
| TVmaze (ToS) | Source of TV show metadata | Outbound API requests from our server; TVmaze does not receive user identifiers |
| TMDB (The Movie Database) (ToS) | Source of additional show metadata and streaming-availability data | Outbound API requests from our server containing show identifiers; TMDB does not receive user identifiers |
| JustWatch (via TMDB) | Underlying source of streaming-availability data surfaced through TMDB | We do not send data directly to JustWatch; we receive JustWatch-sourced availability data through the TMDB API |
| Stripe (privacy) | Payment processing for web-based trials, subscriptions, and lifetime purchases | Payment information you submit during checkout (such as card details, billing address, and payment method), along with transaction metadata (such as amount, currency, and product identifiers); we receive non-card identifiers and status information to link purchases to your account and maintain your entitlement |
| Apple (privacy) | iOS app distribution, TestFlight beta delivery, crash reporting, and in-app purchases | Information you submit through the App Store / TestFlight, device data tied to iOS, and, in the case of in-app purchases, purchase and subscription-related data that allows us to recognize and maintain your entitlement |
| Email delivery (SMTP) | Sending transactional email (account notices, password resets, support replies) from contact@nextwatchtv.com | Your email address and message content |
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share personal information with advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics companies for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5.2 Legal and Safety
We may disclose information when we reasonably believe it is necessary to:
- comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request;
- enforce our Terms, including investigation of potential violations;
- protect the rights, property, or safety of BurrLife LLC, our users, or the public; or
- detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues (including payment fraud and abuse of trial or restore flows).
5.3 Business Transfers
If BurrLife LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to the receiving entity's continued compliance with this Policy or an equivalent policy. We will notify you of any such change.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to provide the Service and for the purposes described in this Policy.
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Account and profile data | Until you delete your account, plus up to 30 days in operational backups (deleted-user data is not restored to production on recovery) |
| Billing and entitlement records (non-card data) | For as long as needed to operate the Service, comply with legal and accounting obligations, and resolve disputes, typically for the life of your account and for a reasonable period thereafter (often up to 7 years, depending on applicable law) |
| Viewing activity (ratings, watch status, watchlist) | Until you delete your account or clear the data in-app |
| Server logs (IP addresses, request logs) | Typically 30-90 days, longer only if needed to investigate a security incident |
| Support emails | Up to 2 years, then deleted |
| Legal acknowledgment records (Terms, Privacy Policy, and similar) | Retained for the life of your account and for up to 7 years after account closure, as a business record evidencing your agreement to our Terms and this Policy |
| Operational backups | Rolling 30-day retention, used for routine restore. Backups are out of normal use; deleted-user data is not restored to production on recovery |
When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within the periods above, except where retention is required by law, to resolve disputes, to prevent fraud and abuse (including with respect to trials and billing), or to enforce our agreements.
6.1 Legal Acknowledgment Records
When you create an account or accept a material update to our Terms or this Policy, we record a durable acknowledgment that includes the document type and version you accepted, a cryptographic hash of the exact text of that version, the date and time of acceptance, the client platform and app version, your locale, and a truncated IP address and user agent. These records are a business record of the contract between you and BurrLife LLC. We retain them for the life of your account and for a reasonable period after closure (generally up to seven years) so that we can respond to disputes, enforce our Terms, and demonstrate compliance with applicable laws. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete or de-identify other personal information within the periods described above, but we may retain the acknowledgment record itself, in minimized form, for this limited purpose.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Regardless of where you live, you may:
- Access, correct, or delete most of your information from within the app (profile, ratings, watch status, watchlist, notes).
- Export your data. Email us at contact@nextwatchtv.com and we will provide a machine-readable copy of your personal data within a reasonable time.
- Close your account. Email us at contact@nextwatchtv.com to close your account and delete your personal information, subject to the retention exceptions in Section 6.
- Opt out of notifications. Disable web push in your browser settings; disable iOS push in iOS Settings → Notifications → Next Watch TV. In-app notifications can be managed in the Notifications Preferences screen.
- Opt out of non-essential email. Use the unsubscribe link in any non-essential email. We will still send administrative messages (e.g., password resets, account notices, Terms updates).
7.1 U.S. State Residents (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, and similar)
Depending on your state, you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose;
- access or receive a copy of that information;
- correct inaccurate information;
- delete your information;
- opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (note: we do not sell or share your information for cross-context behavioral advertising);
- limit use of "sensitive" personal information (we do not use sensitive information beyond what is necessary to deliver the Service); and
- be free from discrimination for exercising these rights.
To exercise any of these rights, email contact@nextwatchtv.com from the email address on your account. We may need to verify your identity before responding, typically by confirming control of that email address. You may also authorize an agent to act on your behalf; we may require proof of authorization.
7.2 EEA / UK Residents
You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection under GDPR / UK GDPR. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Because BurrLife LLC is a U.S.-based company with no EU establishment, we have not appointed an EU representative; please contact us directly at contact@nextwatchtv.com.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information, including:
- Transport-layer encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for all traffic to the web app and API.
- Password hashing using modern algorithms; we never store plaintext passwords.
- Least-privilege access to production systems and secret management for credentials.
- CSRF protection, rate limiting, input validation, and other application-layer protections.
- Periodic security reviews and secret scanning (for example,
gitleaksin CI). - Encrypted backups via Litestream.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If we learn of a security incident that affects your personal information, we will notify you and any authority as required by law.
9. International Data Transfers
BurrLife LLC is based in the United States, and our hosting provider (Render) processes data in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to such transfer. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for transfers from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, email contact@nextwatchtv.com and we will delete it.
For users between 13 and the age of majority in their jurisdiction, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to our Terms and Conditions and this Privacy Policy on the user's behalf.
11. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use a small number of first-party cookies and similar technologies to operate the Service:
- Session cookies to keep you signed in.
- CSRF tokens to prevent cross-site request forgery.
- Local storage to remember your preferences (e.g., dark mode, filters).
We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but disabling essential cookies will prevent the Service from functioning correctly.
Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control
Because we do not track you across third-party sites or engage in cross-context behavioral advertising, Do Not Track and GPC signals do not change how the Service behaves. We still honor applicable opt-out rights described in Section 7.
12. iOS-Specific Disclosures
If you use the iOS application, the following also applies:
- App Store privacy labels. The privacy practices disclosed here are reflected in the app's App Store privacy labels. If we update those labels, we will also update this Policy.
- App Tracking Transparency (ATT). We do not track you across apps and websites owned by other companies, and we do not present an ATT prompt.
- Permissions. The app may request permission for notifications. Camera, microphone, contacts, location, Health, and HomeKit permissions are not used.
- Crash reports and in-app purchases. If you have opted into sharing app analytics with developers in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share With App Developers, Apple may provide us aggregated crash and performance data tied to the app. If you make in-app purchases, Apple may share purchase and subscription-related information with us (such as product identifiers, transaction status, and subscription state) so we can recognize and maintain your entitlement.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date above and notify you through the Service or by email before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of the updated Policy constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
